Schedule your semi-annual check-ups now

We all know how easy it is for things to fall through the cracks once our schedules get busy. That is why our dental team encourages you to get your semi-annual appointments on the books now. The ADA’s general recommendation is that patients complete cleanings every six months or so, but your dentist may have a different recommendation if you are dealing with ongoing oral health issue.

Treat yourself to fresh dental tools

This is the perfect time to take a look at your oral hygiene tools and replace any that are worn out or not working for you. Make sure that your toothbrush is properly sized to reach the back corners of your smile. Talk to your dentist about what bristle strength—soft, medium, firm, or extra-firm—is right for you. Many people will do well with a soft-bristled brush; these bristles clean effectively without causing enamel damage or gum tissue recession. Finally, make sure that your toothbrush isn’t too old—you should be replacing your brush every three or four months to be safe.

Establish new, healthy habits

There are a number of little things that you can do throughout the day in order to support your oral health. Number one is to drink plenty of water, and use water to rinse your smile after eating or drinking anything other than water. Another tip is to indulge in sugary or acidic treats during short, thoughtfully planned out times, rather than snacking or sipping continuously throughout the day.
