Are You Hiding Your True Personality Because of an Embarrassing Smile?
Find Out What You Can Do To Get Your Smile and Confidence Back!
Today we are talking about the connection between your smile and your self-image. I’d like to illustrate the relationship using a story about a patient of mine. Here’s what Andy told me about a year ago:
“I’ve completely lost confidence in the way I look, and it’s because of my teeth. I’m a real estate agent, and my appearance is very important for closing the deal. I’ve always heard that the first thing people notice when meeting you is your smile – for my sake, I hope that’s not true! I know that people notice the gaps and yellow tint in my smile. It’s a daily embarrassment just to meet new clients, and lately I’ve avoided smiling so that no one will notice how bad my teeth look. The worst thing is I think that it’s been affecting my sales rates. It’s hard to convince a client (or anyone for that matter) to trust you when you can’t even smile. I need help – fast!”
Just as Andy said, it is true that your smile is one of the first things people notice upon meeting you. A warm, welcoming smile can set the tone for a friendship, a business partnership, a sale, or any kind of relationship between two people. No one wants to be greeted with a tight-lipped grin, but if you’re self-conscious of your smile, that’s just what you’ll do – hide your true self behind tight lips. No one wants to cover up their true personality, but sometimes your smile may have embarrassing flaws that are difficult to conceal.
If you aren’t satisfied with the way you look, you probably worry about what other people think as well. This kind of negative self-image can lead to low self-esteem, shyness, and difficulty interacting with other people. Low self-esteem and a reluctance to smile can dramatically affect your personal and professional life.
Some of the most common dental problems that cause embarrassment are:
- crooked or overlapping teeth
- missing or chipped teeth
- stained or yellow-ish teeth
- small, worn down teeth
Unfortunately, many people suffer with these unattractive dental problems, never knowing that effective, affordable solutions are available. Too many people limit their social interaction, and miss out on great opportunities to laugh, smile, and have a great time, because they are ashamed of the condition of their teeth. The good news is that there is hope for just about everyone, no matter what the current condition of your teeth may be!
After just three dentist appointments in the span of 6 weeks, Andy’s smile was looking as dazzling as ever. For his particular case, we opted for a deep teeth whitening, followed by the application of porcelain veneers to cover up the gaps in his smile. Here’s what Andy told us a few weeks after his smile makeover:
“I finally feel like myself again! I’ve never been more sure of myself. It’s impossible to describe the immediate boost of confidence you experience with a new smile. My clients are definitely noticing too. I get compliments almost every day about how great my teeth look!”
